These photos were taken
on a recent trip to South America. Specifically, Sao Paulo, Brazil and
Buenos Aires, Argentina. The purpose of the trip was an international
study tour required to complete my MBA.
During our limited free time, we had the opportunity to see and experience the local cultures. So many images and so little time to capture them all. Many of them haunt me still: the magnitude of Sao Paulo where some 37 million people live, the abject poverty of the shanty towns that dot the hillsides around the city, and the warm, brown eyes and weathered features of Roberto, an older Brazilian gentleman with whom I shared a few hours conversation. And then to Buenos Aires, the city many call the Paris of South America,. Sipping espresso at Café La Biela as the daylight dimmed and the lights of the city begin to glow, images of the Spanish opera house with its wide marble staircases, velvet furnishings and elaborate chandeliers. When the lights dimmed, it was as if you had stepped back in time. How to capture the cloudless blue sky and the sights and sounds of life one could feel as you wandered from booth to booth at the art fair in Recoleta. I am an aspiring photographer with much to learn. I believe photography is more than just capturing a moment in time. The true art comes in seeing beyond the surface and capturing the very essence of life. That is what I hope to someday achieve. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. Carpe Diem! Denise |
